Hand-burnt on bias cut maple, Lady Simcoe features a woman's hand grasping a bouquet of flowering aquatic plants local to Lake Simcoe in Ontario. The piece also features a yellow perch - a species of significance to the lake - shown swimming around the wrist. This piece (and larger collection) is a tribute to femininity in wild places inspired by years of working and recreating in these overlooked, misunderstood and under appreciated environments.
Species included in the piece are water smartweed (Polygonum amphibium), white water crowfoot (Ranunculus longirostris), Richardson's pondweed (Potamogeton richardsonii), white water lily, yellow pond lily, and chara spp..
Details: Woodburning on live edge maple, finished with an exterior varnish for UV protection.
Wire hanging system installed on the back, ready to hang.
Title and year burned onto back of piece.
