Seeing Redd, 2024
When salmonids spawn, they prepare nests - called redds - in the substrate of streams to incubate their eggs.
This original, one-of-one by Abby Wynia, Seeing Redd was an experimental piece exploring several different burner pens and their applications with linework and shading, as well as highlighting one of the significant events in the life history of salmonids. The piece was wood burned by hand (pyrography), and features two salmonids appearing to circle over gravel/cobble substrate.
