Fishful Thinking Art by Abby Wynia

Crossed Paths, 2024
There’s something about the infamous fish of 10000 casts, the gnarliest freshwater predator in Canadian lakes, the Muskellunge (Esox masquinongy) that begs for attention on the water and in the studio. Maybe it’s the mystery, the challenge, the chance, or just the clout that keeps you casting well past that last-cast promise, whipping those figure eights when the lure reaches the dock or boat. While maybe a bit different in the studio, often chasing perfection in capturing the essence of the species on wood or paper, the feeling of achievement in the results of long fought battles keeps you coming back.
This original, one-of-one piece by Abby Wynia, Crossed Paths was wood burned by hand (pyrography), and features the close up portrait of a muskie on a live edge bias-cut wood.
