Inspired by my work with riverine fish communities in the spring, I could not resist the call to paint the understated, under-appreciated longnose sucker. Spawning in the spring, the males develop tubercles on their fins (and body), and the most beautiful cranberry red stripe along their sides. This original work was completed using several different watercolour techniques to achieve the final look.
