This little piece of original artwork measures 4.5” in diameter and features a rainbow trout/steelhead burned on an Alberta douglas fir round.
Every wood piece starts with two to three rounds of sanding to achieve the required surface smoothness for sketching. Each piece is then individually drafted and sketched. Once the sketch is ready, I use my chisel tip pens to burn in the initial linework, followed by my angle tip pen to start the shading process. Details are added with several other pen types, in between layers of shading. Once the burn is finished, the piece is signed and sealed with exterior, water based semi-gloss varathane for premium UV and dust protection. Accents of white are added with a gel pen.
In addition to working well as a standalone original art piece in small spaces, the finished piece is also suitable for use as a coaster, if desired.
